Details

The 8-day Lemosho Route is one of Kilimanjaro’s most beautiful and least crowded trails, offering a stunning mix of landscapes and a high success rate due to its longer acclimatization period.

After breakfast, depart Arusha for Londorossi Gate, where registration formalities take place. From the gate, your trek begins with a gentle hike through the dense rainforest. Keep an eye out for black-and-white colobus monkeys and exotic birds as you make your way to Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree Camp) at 2,650m.
Leave the rainforest behind and trek through rolling heather and moorland. The trail gradually ascends, offering your first views of Kibo Peak in the distance. You’ll arrive at Shira 1 Camp (3,610m) in the afternoon, where you can enjoy stunning views of the Shira Plateau.
Continue your journey across the expansive Shira Plateau. Today’s trek is relatively easy and offers breathtaking vistas of the mountain’s glaciers and dramatic landscapes. Arrive at Shira 2 Camp (3,850m) in the afternoon, with time to rest and acclimatize.
Today’s trek is both challenging and rewarding. Hike to the Lava Tower (4,600m), a prominent volcanic formation, where you’ll pause to acclimatize before descending to Barranco Camp (3,950m). The descent helps your body adjust to the altitude, and the views of the Western Breach and Barranco Wall are unforgettable.
Conquer the Barranco Wall, a thrilling scramble that rewards you with panoramic views. The trail then winds through valleys and ridges, leading to Karanga Camp (3,995m). This shorter trekking day allows for additional acclimatization.
Ascend through alpine desert to Barafu Camp (4,673m), your base camp for the summit push. Prepare your gear and rest, as you’ll begin the final ascent in the early hours of the next day.
Begin your summit trek at midnight, trekking under a star-lit sky to Stella Point on the crater rim. From here, the final push to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) offers a sense of accomplishment like no other. After celebrating at the summit, descend back to Barafu Camp for a rest and meal before continuing down to Mweka Camp (3,068m) for the night.
On the final day, descend through lush rainforest to Mweka Gate, where you’ll receive your certificate of achievement. Transfer back to Arusha for a well-deserved rest and celebration.
