The Lemosho Route is celebrated for its stunning landscapes and excellent acclimatization profile. As one of the quieter Kilimanjaro routes, it provides trekkers with a serene and immersive journey through lush rainforests, picturesque moorlands, and stark alpine deserts before reaching the Uhuru Peak (5,895m).
Begin your journey with a drive to Londorossi Gate (2,100m) for registration and permits. The trek starts in the rainforest, where you’ll enjoy the sights and sounds of diverse flora and fauna, including colobus monkeys. After a 3-4 hour hike, arrive at Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,650m) for your first night under the stars.
After breakfast, ascend through the rainforest to the moorland zone, where the landscape opens up to rolling hills and scattered giant heathers. Today’s trek, lasting 5-7 hours, leads you to Shira 1 Camp (3,610m), offering panoramic views of the Shira Plateau and the majestic Mount Meru in the distance.
Enjoy a gradual ascent across the Shira Plateau, a unique volcanic landscape. This day provides incredible views of Kibo Peak and ample time to acclimatize. After a 4-5 hour trek, arrive at Shira 2 Camp (3,850m) for a relaxing evening and a delicious meal.
Today’s trek includes a climb to Lava Tower (4,630m), an excellent acclimatization point, before descending to Barranco Camp (3,960m). The 7-8 hour journey introduces you to dramatic landscapes, including the surreal Senecio Forest. The views of the Barranco Wall and the Southern Icefields are a highlight of the day.
Start the day by tackling the Barranco Wall, a steep yet non-technical climb that rewards with breathtaking views. Continue through the Karanga Valley, arriving at Karanga Camp (4,035m) after a 4-5 hour trek. This shorter day allows time to rest and adjust to the altitude.
Ascend to Barafu Camp (4,640m), the final stop before the summit. The trail cuts through alpine desert terrain, offering stark yet beautiful views of the surrounding peaks. After a 4-5 hour trek, reach camp and prepare for the midnight summit push.
Your summit day begins in the early hours, with a challenging ascent to Stella Point (5,739m) and onward to Uhuru Peak (5,895m). Witness the sunrise from Africa’s highest point and take in the awe-inspiring scenery. After celebrating your achievement, descend to Barafu Camp for a rest and lunch before continuing to Mweka Camp (3,110m) for the night.
Descend through the lush rainforest to Mweka Gate (1,640m), where you’ll receive your summit certificate. Celebrate your success with your team before returning to Arusha for a well-earned rest.
